Dr. Kathleen Mahannah ND, MSCP
“If you want to dedicate yourself to taking care of your family, your work, or your world – the first task is to learn how to care for your self.” – Dr. Kathleen Mahannah, ND
Coming from a family of healthcare professionals, and as a former varsity athlete and then coach, I combine two of my favourite things in my career in Naturopathic Medicine: feeding my fascination with the human body, and working with people. “Doctor as Teacher”, one of the principles of Naturopathic Medicine, describes the role that I think doctors should play in our lives. I empower individuals with the knowledge, tools and skills, both modern and traditional, to identify and overcome the root cause of disease. As a Naturopathic Physician, I harness the wisdom of healing traditions from across countries and centuries and hone it with modern medical knowledge in order to identify the underlying cause of your health concern and provide the most comprehensive healthcare available. Most importantly, I get to work with people like you, to guide you on your unique, personalized health journey to restore and maintain lasting vibrant health.
I treat families, and particularly enjoy working with:
Women, to support hormone balance (for conditions like Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, PMS, hypothyroidism), fertility, and through the menopause transition; Individuals experiencing digestive problems or disease (such as indigestion, bloating, abdominal pain, or inflammatory bowel disease); Men and women experiencing stress-induced fatigue and burnout who want a sustainable, high performance lifestyle. I prioritize using safe, effective, natural medicine ranging from herbs, targeted nutrient therapy, physical medicine, acupuncture, and intravenous (IV) therapy. I also use my prescription authority when needed, so that we can combine the best of modern and traditional medicine to attain your health goals. Most importantly, I treat you.
To me, healthy living exists in the daily rituals, habits, thoughts and the environment that leaves you feeling energized, vibrant, inspired and empowered. When you feel at your very best, anything is possible! Healthy living includes: eating real food that nourishes us, being physically active (and having fun with it), expressing ourselves creatively, feeling connected to our communities and our environment, and of course, laughter.
As a Lynn Valley native, I’m thrilled to practice in my own hometown. It takes a village to raise a child, and I know first hand how wonderfully involved this physically active and family-oriented community is. My idea of a perfect day on the West Coast would incorporate the best of the mountains and the ocean. You will find me hiking in Lynn Canyon or stand-up paddleboarding in Deep Cove with my dog, or training for my next outdoor physical challenge: Triple Crown on my road bike, or a trail half marathon. After enjoying the mountain air, nothing feels better than exploring the farmer’s market to collect fresh local produce for dinner, and curling up inside with tea in the company of friends or family.

“Wellness encompasses a healthy body, a sound mind, and a tranquil spirit. Enjoy the journey as you strive for wellness.” – Laurette Gagnon Beaulieu
I have been practicing as a Naturopathic Doctor for 20 years, supporting women and their families through all stages of health. My practice has evolved to focus on women’s health and mental wellness. Shifts in key hormones can affect mood, energy, sleep, and overall well-being. With hormonal balance and support for stress and emotional health, women often regain clarity, steadier energy, better sleep, and a renewed sense of well-being.
Over the years, my greatest joy has been working with women to rediscover their strength and resilience and witnessing the ripple effects transform not only their health, but also their families and communities.
I offer virtual appointments, making it easy for patients across British Columbia to access comprehensive naturopathic and mental health support from home. In-person visits are offered periodically for those who prefer face-to-face care.
My approach is integrative and individualized. I draw on nutritional counseling, lifestyle medicine, botanical medicine, supplementation, counseling, and prescriptions as needed. I believe strongly in the tenet of “doctor as teacher,” and patient education and empowerment are paramount in my practice. I strive to help women understand their bodies and provide them with tools to move forward with confidence.
Some of the areas I treat include:
- Perimenopause and menopause care
- Menstrual health (PMS/PMDD, PCOS)
- Thyroid conditions
- Digestive health (IBS, IBD, SIBO, reflux, bloating, bowel changes)
- Stress, anxiety, depression, and sleep concerns
- Parenting support and counselling for teens
- Life transitions (relationship changes, separation/divorce, loss, career changes)
I am also passionate about giving back to the naturopathic profession. I contribute my time as an instructor at CCNM, the naturopathic medical college, and play an active role in CCHPBC, the regulatory body for naturopathic doctors in British Columbia.
Outside of practice, the greatest joy in my life is being a mother to my three children. I adore family time, and I balance it with yoga, Pilates, biking, skiing, and the simple pleasures of writing and gardening.
